Shinto Sword in Gunto Mounts with Leather Cover
Signature: Tambo no Kamiyoshi
Year Made: Edo Shito period
Forging Pattern: Itami
Tempering Pattern: Gonome
Dimensions: Nagasa: 26 13/16", Nakago: 5", Mihaba: 1 3/16", Sakihaba: 3/4", Kasane: 1/4", Sori: 7/16"
Mountings: The saya is wood with a leather wrap. The tsuka has a second mekugi ana punched through. This was not done well and the fittings don't fit properly. Otherwise, the tsuka is fairly solid.
Overall Condition: The blade is solid with no kizu but is osuriage with a short nakago. The edge has very minor dents and surface scratches that give the appearance that the blade was used for some kind of cutting like maybe brush or bamboo. This may be from use during WWII. About a 1/16" of the tip is broken off which may also be WWII damage. All of this damage would be easily removed with a good polish. The hada and hamon are nice and this sword will be attractive after a good polish.
