MasaYasu Shinto Katana with NTHK Papers

Signature:  Mumei.  Attributed to Bungo Masayasu.
Year Made:  1600/1700s
Forging Pattern: Dense Mokume
Tempering Pattern: Gunome Midare with Tobiyaki in nie on a bright band of nioi
Dimensions:  Blade Length:  24 inchesNakago: 8 inches 6.5 mm thick and 29 mm wide at Hamachi
Mountings: Original mounts from the 1800s in very good condition.  Some chips on the lacquered saya.
Overall Condition:  Excellent, in good old polish with no visible flaws.  It is difficult to find swords with original period mounts in good condition.  This sword, while short for a katana, is very well proportioned and well balanced.  As with many Bungo swords, it is very stout and gives a sense of strength and confidence.
