Shinto Sword in Shirasaya

Signature:  Mumei.
Year Made:  Shinto
Forging Pattern: Masame/itame mix,
Tempering Pattern: Active Suguha.
Dimensions:  Blade Length:  27.125 inchesNakago: 7.25 inches 6 mm thick and 30 mm wide at Hamachi
Mountings:  Thin shiraasya of a wood other than the traditional honoki. Silver foil habaki with "rain" design and some damage
Overall Condition:  Good, some ware and "loose" hada and some minor pitting near and in the kissaki area and shiogi-ji, also a few small nicks. Very prominent and active hada. Hamon appears very active as well but it is difficult to see small details in this state of polish. Overall the polish is fair with small scratches only obscuring the smallest of detail. The nakago has been altered from its original shape at some point, likely by someone who was not a swordsmith. This would probably be an alteration made to fit gunto mounts of some kind, kyu-gunto perhaps. Would polish nicely and make an interesting piece.
