Tastes change. You're upgrading your collection. That Ishido Wakizashi you cherished a year ago now looks like an expensive steak knife. You want cash for another sword purchase or to purchase that Porsche you've had your eye on.  Whatever your reason for liquidating part or all of your sword collection we are ready to help. We are in constant need of inventory to sell to eager buyers worldwide. If you have something for sale or trade, we offer several options.

Please note the term Sword includes all Antique Sword Related items as well.

Sell us Your Sword

Selling your sword to us is the fastest way to get your money. However, you will not realize as much money selling it to us as you will consigning it. That's because if we put up our own money, we expect a greater return than if we don’t.

Generally speaking, we will offer you approximately 30% less than what we expect to sell the item for. Let's say you have a SukeSada we expect to fetch $1000. We may offer to buy it off you for $700.  I say "generally speaking" because the 30% margin usually applies only to swords that we can expect to sell reasonably quick (within 30 days). If what you have for sale is something obscure, requires significant restoration or is not in demand, that margin may increase to as much as 50%.

To sell us a sword, please contact us to give a description of the item. Pictures are best. With that information we could give you an estimate as to what it is worth. However, we do need the sword in hand to make the final assessment. So you will have to send the sword to us for inspection.  Please insure the sword for its full replacement value.   We are not responsible for items in transit.  References gladly provided if you need it.

If we do not come to terms, we will ship the sword back to you at our expense.  If we do come to terms we will pay you with Certified Funds.

Consign Your Sword

This method realizes you the greatest amount of money for your sword, but also takes longer to get your money. Generally speaking, you'll receive payment anywhere from 30 to 60 days after you send the item to us.  In addition to selling on the web, we also bring your items to sword shows and market directly to collectors without web access.   Unlike dealers who keep consignees in the dark, we tell you how much we are selling the item for and you have the ability to check on our site if your item is sold.

Our consignment terms are simple:

1. We take an 80/20 split on the selling price with a minimum $50 for fittings and $100 for swords.   Example:  We sell the sword for $1,000, you get $800 we get $200.

2. You can set your minimum "net" price, or have us price the item, whichever you prefer. We will always try and get you the most we can for the item, priced within what the market will bear. This only makes sense; the more you make, the more we make. Of course, we need to agree on price and we reserve the right to decline the piece if we are too far apart.

3. We need possession of the piece for at least 30 days to let it run a normal course on the Web. We usually settle within 30 days from the time the item goes on hold.   This is to allow sufficient time for settlement of funds, shipment and inspection of the item. In many cases, settlement is faster than 30 days, but 30 days is not unusual, especially since 50% of our sales are to overseas customers where consummation of the sale takes longer.

If the piece does not sell within 30 days, there are three options:

  1. We can reduce the price (usually 5-10%) with a corresponding drop in your "net" realization and run the piece again for 30 days;
  2. We can offer to buy the piece outright from you for a reduced price; or
  3. Return the piece to you (we pay return postage).

Generally speaking, we don't want to run a piece on the web site for more than 60 days. If it doesn't sell by then, it's probably not going to sell.

Trade Your Sword

We'll consider trading most any of our items for most anything sword related you might have. Traders must understand that we are not a collector, therefore we cannot trade even up. We are a business and have overhead to cover.  Therefore, whatever we might trade for has to be something that we can make a "reasonable" profit on. In this case, "reasonable" is anywhere from 10% to 50%, depending on the item.

Again, let's use the example of the SukeSada. We might have one on the Web site for $1,000. You want to trade, and you have the following items:

1. Oil Temper Gunto in 50% condition;

2. Old Iron Sukashi Tsuba;

3. Pair of Shakudo Menukis.

We estimate the Gunto will bring $350; the Tsuba $350 and the Menukis $300. Total: $1,000. We will allow you $800 on those items, 20% less, because we feel that we can move all those pieces quickly. So we will trade the SukeSada with you for the items plus $200.

Sword Hunting Service

If you are looking for anything in particular please let us know what it is and how much you are looking to spend.  We attend all the major sword shows and are in constant contact with other collectors and dealers.  Please be realistic, we will not be able to find you any Ichimonji Tachis for $500.  Please e-mail your requests to us.

How To Send Your Sword to Us

We recommend U.S. Postal Service Insured Mail. Be sure to insure your package for full replacement value, you are responsible for your item when it is in transit.  Be sure to pack it well and make sure the sword will not pierce through the box if handled roughly.

Please be sure to include a detailed packing slip with all contents listed and a brief description. As mentioned before, you may specify a net amount that you need on the piece or pieces, or allow me to set the asking price. And please, please, include a daytime phone number.
